Professional Development Training on SIOP


Highly skilled teachers are one of the most important influences on student success (Kan, Rockoff 2007). Research shows that inspiring and informed English teachers are the most important school-related factor influencing student achievement in language acquisition. There is considerable need for updated professional development for the English teachers in the ten  private schools and more than ten government schools of District Hyderabad Rural, Sindh, Tandojam.

The purpose of this training was to provide six days of professional development training to 40 English teachers in both public and private  middle and secondary schools (6th through 10 grades).  
In the first phase which started from 24th November 2015 to 26th November 2015 teachers gained in-depth understanding of Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol (SIOP Model) performed activities.

   Goal and specific objectives achieved:
Teachers understand about importance of SIOP, Components of SIOP, Assessment formal as well as informal, Teaching with activities & all these were observed.

Jigsaw Techniques, Think-Pair-Share, Independent activity, Participants developed informal and formal assessment for given lesson.
Video lesson on Assessment & Review of Learning & Teaching for SIOP by Dr.Edward Carolyn, Content & Language Objectives & use of graphic organizer Lesson Plan techniques & delivery of Lesson PlanTime management during lesson delivery with utilization of                 activities in classroom

 



        

It is a great experience for me that I organized such a wonderful workshop with Collaboration of IREX & Department of State USA, My participation in TEA Program 2015 proved fruitful for my community, Staff and students and it is honor for me to utilizing all these skills which I had learned, after that everybody willing to share such things and involved in activities, In the end of workshop participants also given knowledge regarding exchange programs and after that positive remarks were given by all. I believe that education is the major source to solve all problems of world.
